I am an artist, printmaker, and teacher. My art is inspired by the complex beauty of nature, wildlife, and ancient Asian designs. I love to create art celebrating women, and whimsical art for children. My art is also shaped by my experiences as a mother, an activist, a forager of herbs and mushrooms, and a home herbalist. While focusing on the fundamentals of drawing, she more importantly takes you through exercises that allow you "to see" your subject in a new, more realistic and authentic way. This is in contrast to representational drawing, which our brain often resorts to instead of what is in front of us. Starting with a detailed explanation of some aspect of drawing (tone, composition), Mei-Ling show examples of pictures, both from the masters, but also contemporary artists.
